The Halal Center of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta operates within the legal and institutional framework of the Republic of Indonesia and is governed by national laws and regulations related to halal product assurance, higher education, and institutional governance.
The establishment and operation of the Halal Center are primarily based on Law Number 33 of 2014 on Halal Product Assurance, which mandates the implementation of halal certification and assurance systems for products circulating in Indonesia. This law serves as the main legal foundation for the Halal Center’s role in supporting halal assurance through education, research, training, and community engagement.
In carrying out its functions, the Halal Center refers to Government Regulation Number 42 of 2024 on the Implementation of Halal Product Assurance, which provides technical guidelines on halal certification mechanisms, institutional roles, and stakeholder involvement within the national halal assurance system.
The Halal Center coordinates with the Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency (BPJPH) as the government authority responsible for halal product assurance in Indonesia, particularly in the implementation of its function as a Halal Product Process Assistance Institution (LP3H), in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
Institutionally, the Halal Center is an integral part of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. The management of the Halal Center is based on a Rector’s Decree, which is issued and renewed annually to accommodate institutional needs as well as possible appointments, additions, or changes in the composition of Halal Center personnel.
Through this legal framework, the Halal Center UIN Sunan Kalijaga ensures that all academic, research, training, and service activities are conducted in accordance with the principles of legal certainty, transparency, accountability, and quality assurance, while contributing to the strengthening of the national and global halal ecosystem.
